Melissa is a patent lawyer with 10 years of experience in intellectual property law and technology commercialization in academia and private practice. As Director of the University of Texas at El Paso’s Office of Technology Commercialization, she managed UTEP’s patent portfolio, including protecting, marketing, and licensing all UTEP inventions in six technology fields. She works closely with innovators to evaluate patentable inventions and develop patent prosecution strategies for complex portfolios.
Melissa negotiates a wide variety of technology commercialization agreements including non-disclosure agreements, options, and licenses. While in private practice with a boutique intellectual property firm based in Albuquerque, NM, her client base included Xerox, Honeywell, IBM, the Department of Energy, NIST, federal labs, and various universities. She received her J.D. from Texas A&M School of Law, and her B.S. in biology, magna cum laude, from the University of Texas at San Antonio.
